Medicare Population DataThere are two parts to Medicare: Part A coverage and Part B coverage. Part A insurance covers hospital care, skilled nursing facility stays, home health services and hospice care. For most people, Part A coverage does not require a monthly premium. Part B coverage covers physician services, outpatient services and medical equipment. Part B coverage requires a modest monthly premium, which varies each year. People can participate in either Part A or Part A and Part B coverage, depending on their medical needs. The state of NC pays for Part B coverage for some low-income persons. In NC, Medicare beneficiaries can receive services in a fee-for-service system or through a health maintenance organization or managed care plan.
