Medicare Population Data

There are two parts to Medicare: Part A coverage and Part B coverage. Part A insurance covers hospital care, skilled nursing facility stays, home health services and hospice care. For most people, Part A coverage does not require a monthly premium. Part B coverage covers physician services, outpatient services and medical equipment. Part B coverage requires a modest monthly premium, which varies each year. People can participate in either Part A or Part A and Part B coverage, depending on their medical needs. The state of NC pays for Part B coverage for some low-income persons. In NC, Medicare beneficiaries can receive services in a fee-for-service system or through a health maintenance organization or managed care plan. The information about NC and SC Medicare beneficiaries comes from the NC Beneficiary Enrollment Database, supplied to MRNC by CMS. New data are added annually.
