Mammography Data

Screening mammograms are recommended for early detection of breast cancer for women beginning at age 40. Most health organizations recommend that by age 50, a woman should be getting a mammogram every year. Medicare helps pay for a mammogram once every 12 months for women age 40 and older enrolled in Medicare. For more information about mammography, visit the CancerNet website sponsored by the National Cancer Institute.

The data presented here come from claims paid for by Medicare for North Carolina beneficiaries. For information about the procedure codes used to identify mammograms, please visit our Technical Notes page.
