About CCME
The Carolinas Center for Medical Excellence (CCME) is a physician-sponsored, non-profit organization located in Cary,
North Carolina. Our mission is to provide leadership, education and services to promote improvement in the quality
and cost-effectiveness of healthcare. For more than 21 years, we have worked to fulfill that mission.
- CCME is the Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for North and South Carolina.
- We are a physician-sponsored organization with a membership of more than 3,000 actively practicing physicians
and a staff of over 130 professionals.
- CCME is accredited by the North Carolina Medical Society to provide CME hours for physicians and sponsors
around 40 CME activities per year for more than 2,000 attendees.
- Our staff professionals have experience in the areas of medicine; psychology; adult and pediatric nursing;
epidemiology; statistics; economics; health information management; public health policy; physical, occupational
and speech therapy and clinical social work.
- CCME is a member of the National Quality Forum, which gives us an opportunity to participate in the development
and implementation of a national strategy for healthcare quality measurement and reporting.
- We have worked with three of North Carolina's medical schools – the University of North Carolina Medical
School, Wake Forest University School of Medicine and Duke University School of Medicine – on projects including
osteoporosis, heart failure, colorectal cancer and diabetes. CCME has expertise in disease management models,
assessment of morbidities, mortality, and patterns of care; and we have extensive clinical knowledge of
evidence-based practices.
